Vanessa is a highly skilled and experienced paralegal at FMC with interests in employment and labor law, dispute resolution and litigation, real estate and data protection law. With a passion for the intricacies of law and a keen interest in staying at the forefront of legal developments, she also dedicates her time to writing insightful articles on emerging areas of law, including technology, cybersecurity and intellectual property rights. 

KEY MATTERS

Employment and Labor Law

  • In employment and labor law, she assists clients in navigating complex regulations in aspects of compliance, employment contracts, workplace discrimination, and employee rights. More particularly, she has lent her talents in;
  • Preparation of consultancy agreements and non-disclosure agreements for a tech Company with respect to confidential information that was accessible to consultants in their assessments.
  • Advising clients in drafting and implementation of human resource policies and training staff on human resource policies and employment and labour relations issues in compliance with employment laws. This also includes guidance on how to adjust to future trends in work.
  • Assisting property developers on onboarding different classes of employees to work in their development.
  • Advising clients in setting up a human resource department and giving guidance on a variety of matters in their organizations, including disciplinary and termination procedures, leave policies, employee benefits, and resolving contentious employment disputes.

Dispute Resolution & Litigation

  • With a strong background in litigation, she is part of the Dispute Resolution department, assisting clients resolve complex legal conflicts through negotiation and where necessary legal suits. Particularly, she has assisted in;
  • Drafting and preparation of applications, pleadings and defences in legal suits in courts and tribunals.
  • Preparation of necessary applications and court documents for reinstatement of proceedings for a client whose succession matter had dragged on for several years and was consequently struck out.
  • Assisting in making an application for enforcement of court’s judgement for a client where the Respondent failed to make due payments on time as agreed between the parties
  • Advising a local betting company on reinstatement as intended interested parties in a petition grounded on the excise tax due from betting companies by the Finance Act 2023.
  • • Legal research in pursuit of precedence and possible solutions to client’s disputes.

Commercial & Real Estate Transactions

  • She is well versed in commercial and real estate transactions, handling property sales, purchases, leases, and contracts, ensuring clients' interests are protected by;
  • Drafting and reviewing Joint venture agreements between landowners and local developers looking to venture into real estate developments including the building of apartments for sale of short stays.
  • Drafting and negotiating Agreements for Sale for Purchasers of apartments from various real estate companies in several developments.
  • Preparation of Leases and Transfer Deeds between investors with developers including their review.
  • Variation of previous sale agreements for apartments by developers to comply with the current law regime in the form of title as mandated by the Sectional Property Act

Tech & Data Protection

  • Providing guidance to various companies and institutions on matters such as direct marketing data processing regulations, the designation of a data protection officers, the registration of data controllers and processors, and the legitimate processing of data.
  • Drafting and reviewing data privacy compliance documents for companies and institutions in various sectors including privacy policies, employee data privacy policies, consent forms etc.

I cannot say that I know much about the law but I certainly know much about justice
